Demskiy district is located in the southern part of the city and covers an area of 56.37 square kilometers. On March 6 in 1944 district became a part of the city, but its history began much earlier: in 1887, due to the building of the railway Samara-Ufa-Zlatoust-Chelyabinsk. There was a switching track called “Dema”, which became the largest hub station in Russia in 30s of XX century.
Today Demskiy district is one of the most environmentally friendly and well-equipped. It has significant production, scientific, technical and performance potential. The main branches of the economy are railway transport (more than 20 enterprises), oil and medical industry. There are 88 large and medium-sized enterprises which employ 12,000 people. In the district there are more than 3.2 thousand of small businesses.
Demskiy district is famous for its history and traditions, hospitality and friendliness of inhabitants, labor achievements and dynasties of railwaymen, doctors, teachers, oil workers. The district is actively developing: modern residential neighborhoods are being built, schools and kindergartens are being reconstructed, schools are being opened, courtyards and public gardens are being improved. Significant changes in the transport infrastructure are taking place.
