More than 10 000 soldiers from the Republic of Bashkortostan carried out peacekeeping duty in Afghanistan. 343 people were killed, 2 500 were wounded and 6 missed in action. By the end of 2018, 8 423 Afghan War veterans have been living in the republic.
86 soldiers were given a title of Hero of the Soviet Union for gallantry in action in Afghanistan. More than 200 thousand soldiers were awarded with military medals. Among Afghan War heroes, there are pilots, tankmen, motorized rifles and rangers, combat engineer, signalers and representatives of other branches of troops. Soldiers, non-commissioned officers and military officers acted fearlessly and decisively under stress conditions.
Afghanistan is forever in hearts of Nail Nagayev, Aidar Tukhbatullin and Marat Khismatullin. The memory of completed military duty will never die out. Veterans participate in social life, help their colleagues and promote patriotism among new generation.
Within the frames of military-patriotic education of young people month, workers of the public life center hold special events dedicated to promotion of patriotism among young generation.
On February 12, Congress-Hall «Toratau» holds an event «True Memory». More than 700 people take part in it: veterans of actions in Afghanistan from republic’s cities and regions, relatives of killed soldiers etc.
On February, 15 a ceremony will take place near the monument «Lady of Sorrows».
