Ufa municipality discussed issues on Law On Languages realization

On December 19, 2018 meeting on Law of the Republic of Bashkortostan on national languages realization took place in municipality. Members of municipal commission, deputy Heads of district Administrations, Heads of Departments and commission secretaries took part in the meeting.

As the Deputy Head of Ufa City Municipal District Administration Alina Suleymanova mentioned in her opening speech, permanent work on language policy is being held in Ufa. Terminological group continues its work, too. In 2018, this group considered 4 974 applications from companies’ and city organizations’ representatives. 947 certificates are given to them to place and use means of information displays. Work on error handling in mass media on outdoor advertising issues is in progress.

Deputy Heads of district Administrations spoke about the way of realization of Law of the Republic of Bashkortostan on national languages. They told about work on checking correct translations of streets names, texts of official papers, stamps, organizations, companies and institutions signs. Also, they brought up a topic on learning native language organization, holding of competitions, festivals, research and practice conferences and events to promote and develop native languages and cultures.

Also, it was mentioned that subscription to print medias dedicated to native language promotion is under special focus.

Deputy Head of the department of entrepreneurship and commerce Elvira Matveeva said that incorrect displays can often be noticed on streets of the city. Basically, this is the case of incorrect words and phrases in signs in Bashkir language.

In the Republic, both languages Russian and Bashkir are official and breaking of a law shall result in the recovery of a fine to officials of organizations in an amount of 5-10 salaries, to corporate bodies 50-100 salaries.

The Head of the Language Policy department Zulfiya Khannanova announced the results of on-site examinations. Also, she mentioned that on December 8, 2018 – March 8, 2019 a campaign “Literate city” will be held.

In conclusion, Alina Suleymanova instructed District Administrations representatives to solve the problem of illiterate signs of companies, institutions etc.
