Sergey Grekov inspected the situation at the solid waste landfill in the village of Novye Cherkassy

On June 25, the Head of Ufa City Administration, Sergei Grekov, inspected the activities of the solid waste landfill in the village of Novye Cherkassy and supervised the measures taken earlier to eliminate the fire on its territory.

In recent days, the number of citizens' complaints about an unpleasant smell in some residential areas has increased. In this regard, the Administration of Ufa, together with the Ministry of Nature Management and Ecology of the Republic of Bashkortostan, organized and carried out the corresponding work.

Two days ago, a fire was detected at the MSW landfill, but it was localized and eliminated. According to Rustem Khalikov, director of the municipal enterprise «Spetsavtokhozyaistvo for cleaning the city», on the day of detection the territory was spilled with water by firefighters, then the hearths were covered with a layer of soil and thus «mothballed» in order to prevent decay or re-ignition. Air sampling was carried out, there are no reasons for concern of the population.

Sergey Grekov inspected the storage areas to make sure personally that the problem has been completely eliminated, there are no fires and smoke, there is also no characteristic burning smell.

Also Sergey Grekov, together with his first deputy Marat Gaifullin, inspected the organization of work on sorting waste and discussed the reconstruction of the waste landfill.

As a result of the trip, the Head of Ufa City Administration instructed to develop a procedure for action in cases of such fires in order to eliminate them as soon as possible. At the moment, various versions of the incident at the landfill are being considered, including a possible arson. In this regard, in the near future, it is planned to install video cameras around the perimeter of the territory and close it with a fence.
