Ufa athletes won 4 bronze medals at the Beijing Olympics

According to the results of the XXIV Winter Olympic Games, held from February 4 to 20, 2022 in Beijing, Ufa athletes won four bronze medals.

The head of the Department of Physical Culture and Sports of the Administration of Ufa Yegor Sorokin reported at an operational meeting in the municipality.

According to him, the Russian national team included 15 athletes from Bashkortostan, including a pupil of the municipal sports school of the Olympic reserve Semyon Elistratov. Ufa and the republic were also represented by seven hockey players of the HC Agidel, two hockey players of the HC Salavat Yulaev, two biathletes (Eduard Latypov and Anton Babikov), two bobsledders (Yuliya Belomestnykh, Rostislav Gaytyukevich) and one skeleton rider Alexander Tretyakov.

Semyon Yelistratov returned to Ufa with a bronze medal in the short track at a distance of 1500 meters. As part of the men's relay, the athlete was close to another Olympic medal, but the photo finish determined that the Italians won the bronze. The Russians gave them less than a hundredth of a second. For Semyon Elistratov, this is the fourth Olympics and the third Olympic medal in his career: he previously became the first in the relay at the games in Sochi and the third at the 2018 Olympics.

Hockey players of «Agidel» as part of the Russian national team successfully overcame the group stage, but in the quarterfinals they lost to athletes from Switzerland.

For Eduard Latypov, the Beijing Olympics was the first in his career, and he won a three-time bronze medal in the pursuit, relay and mixed relay.

Another Ufa biathlete, Anton Babikov, showed good results during the season, which allowed him to enter the Olympic team as a reserve athlete.

«He did not participate in the races, but the biathlon season continues. So, the other day it became known that both Latypov and Babikov will perform at the upcoming stages of the World Cup, so soon we will continue to cheer for the Ufa athletes,» - said Yegor Sorokin.

Bobsledder Yulia Belomestnykh, representing Bashkortostan, took 9th place in the pair races, bobsledder Rostislav Gaytyukevich became eighth in the competition of twos, and seventh in the fours. The first in the history of Russian skeleton Olympic champion Alexander Tretyakov, who represents the republic, stopped a step away from the prize podium.
