«Ufa» Submarine solemnly launched in St. Petersburg

On March 31, 2022, a solemn ceremony of launching the «Ufa» submarine took place in St. Petersburg.

The Head of Bashkortostan Radiy Khabirov, Governor of St. Petersburg Alexander Beglov, Deputy Prime Ministers of the Government of the Republic of Bashkortostan Azat Badranov and Irek Sagitov, Head of Ufa City Administration Ratmir Mavliev, Deputy of the Ufa City Council, Chairman of the Regional Public Organization «Marine Assembly of the Republic of Bashkortostan» Yulai Muratov attended the event.

It should be noted that two years ago, dearly departed Ulfat Mustafin, Head of Ufa City Administration,  took part in the laying of two diesel submarines for the Russian Pacific Fleet.

«Today I feel special excitement, because this is a historic day for our country and the republic, and its capital. Today we are launching a huge submarine cruiser, which will bear the name of the capital of Bashkortostan. Ufa is a city with population over a million, which is famous for the names of Sergei Aksakov, Mikhail Nesterov, Rudolf Nureyev, Ildar Abdrazakov and many, many others. Today I would like to thank the governor of St. Petersburg for supporting the appeal of the Maritime Assembly of the Republic to name the submarine after Ufa, many thanks to all the employees of the Admiralty Shipyards. It is thanks to your work and the engineering thought of the designers that such a powerful ship appeared,» said Radiy Khabirov.

The commander of the Ufa submarine, captain of the third rank Andrey Barkov thanked Radiy Khabirov for his patronage of the crew and promised not to let the republic down. In turn, the Head of Bashkortostan assured him and the crew that the republic would become their second homeland.

According to the tradition of domestic shipbuilding, the launching of a submarine was accompanied by a rite of consecration, blessing and baptism. The «godmother» of the submarine «Ufa» was the wife of the Head of Bashkortostan Karine Khabirova. The traditions of «godmothers» of ships have a long history. The key moment of the launching ritual is the naming of the ship with a name that symbolizes the beginning of its life. The godmother solemnly addresses the ship, pronouncing its name, and breaks a bottle of champagne on the side of the ship.

«We get the right and the opportunity to recommend our best guys for service in this ship. We took patronage over the crew, we will help them and their families, including in matters of recovery, the crew will take part in military-patriotic events in the republic,» said Radiy Khabirov.

According to the company «Admiralty Shipyards», submarines of project 636.3 are equipped with modern means to reduce the level of their own noise to the natural background of the ocean. This provides guaranteed pre-emptive detection of the enemy, as well as timely evasion of his attacks. The navigation autonomy of such submarines is 45 days, the working diving depth is 240 m, the maximum diving depth is 300 m, the number of torpedo tubes is 6, the speed is 18 knots, the crew is 56 people.
