The memory of the victims of the Great Patriotic War was honored in Ufa

Today is the Day of Remembrance and Sorrow. 81 years ago, Nazi Germany attacked the USSR. The Great Patriotic War claimed the lives of 27 million Soviet citizens and became the bloodiest in the history of mankind. Today, commemorative events are taking place all over the country.

Flowers in memory of those who died during the Great Patriotic War were laid at the monument «Compatriots who went to the front» in Ufa.

Veterans were the honored guests of the event. Prime Minister of the Government of the Republic of Bashkortostan Andrei Nazarov, Chief Federal Inspector for the Republic of Bashkortostan of the Office of the Plenipotentiary Representative of the President of the Russian Federation in the Volga Federal District Alexei Kasyanov, Head of Ufa City Administration Ratmir Mavliev, as well as representatives of the Government and ministries of the Republic of Bashkortostan, foreign countries in the city of Ufa, public organizations also attended the laying ceremony.

The participants laid flowers and honored the memory of all those who fought for the Motherland with a minute of silence.

It should be noted that the monument to «Compatriots who went to the front» on the square in front of the Ufa railway station was opened in 2020. The sculptural composition, consisting of nine figures, depicts seeing off to the front in 1941. A group of authors led by the famous sculptor Vadim Kirillov created it. Work on the project continued for more than two years.

The place for the monument was not chosen by chance. Hundreds of thousands of our fellow countrymen went to the front under the march «Farewell of the Slav» from this railway station.
